Virtual Reality at NAB 2010
Vinten Radamec, a Vitec Group brand, is demonstrating its range of solutions for live cameras in a virtual reality environment at the 2010 NAB Show. The presentation includes the US launch of the Fusion FP-188 VR enabled robotic pedestal alongside demonstrations of the manual encoded Quattro SE pedestal.
The Fusion FP-188VR pedestal has all the smoothness and ease of operation of a Vinten pedestal, and can be used in both fully robotic and manual modes. In automated studio operation, it allows precise positioning anywhere on the studio floor without the need for complex set-ups or visible marker systems: it senses its location with reference to a small, L-shaped floor target, which is unobtrusive and works with any floor surface.
In manual mode it tracks and uses the same location system to stream extremely precise positional data to a virtual graphics system. In association with the Fusion FHR-120VR robotic pan and tilt head, the precise location, height and attitude – to fractions of a degree and fractions of a millimetre - of the camera is reported many times a second, allowing live elements to be embedded into a virtual reality environment seamlessly and without lag. The Fusion FP-188VR pedestal has a payload capacity of 85kg (180lbs), sufficient for any modern camera and lens combination with prompter and talent monitor.
The Quattro SE is a lightweight and compact manual pedestal featuring fast and intuitive set-up and coupled with its uncompromised performance as a manual pedestal is perfect for busy studios with a rapid turnaround between real and virtual environments. For the ultimate in freedom of camera movement in a virtual environment Vinten Radamec also offers the Free-D location system with fast processing which plots the precise position in three dimensional space of each camera in a multi-camera shoot, even when handheld.
At 2010 NAB, Vinten Radamec will host a virtual reality demonstration in conjunction with graphics software from Brainstorm and Orad. The control and location information from Vinten Radamec virtual reality heads and pedestals is on an open interface and ready to work with any graphics solutions provider, including industry leaders such as Brainstorm, Orad and Vizrt.
For production studios, Vinten Radamec is also showing its advanced control systems compatible with Autocam, Radamec and Fusion robotic heads and pedestals, capable of controlling third party products used in the newsroom environment such as Telemetrics tracking solutions and the Canon weatherproof head. With the ability to control robotic studios remotely and link production studios together, Vinten Radamec offers an unrivalled and complete solution to global broadcasters, whatever the requirements.
Vinten Radamec can be found on Booth C6025 in the Central Hall at 2010 NAB, Las Vegas Convention Center, 12-15 April.
